The Georgia Black Sheep were formed on July 8th, 1996.

Originally formed in Flowery Branch, Georgia we grew to serve Northeast Georgia.  As the detachment grew, our area did too.  The American Legion Post in Duluth allows us to use their hall for our meeting and with the help of many Marines attached in the Post #251, our charter was granted.  We had 20 Marines ready to serve.  Chattahoochee Post #251 of the Duluth American Legion has been our home ever since.  Most of our members are also members of the American Legion #251.

We have had several Marine Corps Birthday Balls over the years.   We have hosted the Department of Georgia Annual Convention and several other functions of the League.  We have captured the civilian world with our "Iwo Jima Flag Raising Re-enactment" in many Northeast Communities and again bonded the relations of the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps League and the Georgia Black Sheep with the public.  We have won many trophies, cash awards, prizes and accolades throughout the United States.

At Christmas, along with the Annual Toys For Tots Campaign we collect and distribute  thousands of toys to the children of the community.
