It has long been an established custom of Marines to dine together periodically.  A mess night is a formal dinner in mess by all members of a particular unit.  When the members are permitted to bring guests, dates or spouses, the evening is refered to as a Dining In.

The object of the evening may vary from a wish to foster good comradeship among fellow Marines, to celebrate the significant events in unit history, to or to honor guests from anouther unit, service or country.

The procedures outlined below are not concrete or set in stone, they are as I prefer them to be, as your commandant, I have the luxuary to make accomodations as is required, but we will honor the traditions of our beloved corps and will not omit the ritual of honoring those who deserve the utmost of our reverence.

Please bring plenty of one dollar bills to the dinning in, every infraction, real, imagined, or otherwise will be dealt with swiftly at the punch bowl.  (grog)

The sequence of events will include the cocktail hour, the meal, and drinks afterwards.

1800 - Cocktail Hour

1900 - Meal

After the Meal - Retire to the bar.

Detailed sequence is on the next page.
