On 13 September, our detachment conducted the monthly business meeting at at the Antiqua in Suwanee, Georgia.

It was great to see new Marines join our growing band of brothers.

On this evening we voted and approved the application of Michael Tanner.  Michael is a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant and is sure to be an asset to the detachment.  It was my pleasure to swear Michael into the League and present John Kelleher with his Marine Corps League pin.

Items worth noting at the August Meeting is our upcoming parade season, we will continue to need Marines to man the float, the Suwanee Day Parade is fast approaching  (18 September).  The Suwanee Parade is one of the better parades of the season for many reasons:  It is local, the route is not too long, and in the last two years we were awarded cash awards for our detachment funds.

Toys for Tots is on the very near horizon!!   Our detachment officers are on the board for the Toys for Tots Foundation here in North Georgia, and we assist the Gwinnett County warehouse manager by providing labor and supervision to the intake, sorting and distribution of toys at the the facility on Lavall Blvd in Lawerenceville.   Lavall Blvd is off Lakes Parkway between Sugarloaf and Riverside Parkway.  Sugarloaf and Riverside Parkway each have an exit on 316.

What we need from our members to to start organizing groups of folks to assist this year at the warehouse.  I will have more information on operating hours at our next meeting on 13 September, please just think about friends, co-workers, church groups etc.. that would like to work during October through Christmas one or two weekends.

After a few votes of many nominations, a new name for our Detachment was approved.  The new name for our detachment is the Georgia Devil Dog Detachment, the alternate name for submission requirements is the Georgia Iron Mike Detachment.    Tony has began the process with the State of Georgia and we will submit the name change to the Marine Corps League.
